How long does it take
A. The
vast majority of requests are completed within 10 to 15 working
days at the very latest but it is important to note that
for some requests this time can be extended, please be aware that
due to the nature of how criminal record information is collected
and stored it is often necessary to manually confirm individuals
identity. This is often the case with individuals who have popular
surnames such as 'Smith' or 'Brown'. Care must be taken to
ensure an individuals identity is correct, which is a time
consuming process and can take up to 4 to 6 weeks to complete. We
will alway notify you if we are expecting any longer than normal
delays in completing your request.

Where does the information to produce
Police Checks come from
A.
There is a central database located in Canberra, ACT that is
administered by a government agency called CrimTrac. This
database is holds a central index of names of persons of interest
to Police throughout Australia.

Can I order a copy of my own Police Check
just to see what's on it
A.
No, Our service only provides Police Checks to individuals
for the purposes of employment and compliance. If you would
like to order a copy of your Police Check for personal reasons
please contact your local Police Department.

Who can order a Criminal History Record
Check through this service
A. Only
individuals can order a copy of their own National Criminal
History Record Check for the purposes of employment or compliance.
Another individual or party cannot request a copy of a National
Criminal History Record Check without the consent of the person in
question. Employers can arrange to have checks completed
providing they have the consent of the individual in question.

What will I receive back
A. You
will receive a single page Police Certificate produced by
the Australian Federal Police (AFP) that details your name,
date and place of birth, the reason for the check (e.g. Working
with Children) along with either confirmation that no disclosable
outcomes are recorded against your name or details of outcomes
listed against your name.
